Career for a Day

Career for a Day is a programme dedicated to Romanian high school students which aims to create a career counselling platform providing support for the choice of  future studies and career paths.

Taking place on a yearly basis, during the week dedicated to non-formal education (Different School Week), the programme complements formal education by facilitating the connection between Romanian high school students and Romanian professionals that have consolidated their careers abroad.

Students’ selection is based on academic credentials and extra curricular activities.

Once admitted in the program, students are invited for a week to one of the GRASP local chapters, where they have the opportunity to participate to career counselling seminars and workshops, and, for one day, perform job shadowing at a Romanian mentor’s work place. The matching between student and mentor is made according to academic and professional interests, the student’s prospective career choice and personality type.

The first two editions of the programme (2014 and 2015) took place in Brussels and focused on the following:

  • Guided tours at the European Institutions
  • Networking with Romanian professionals in Brussels
  • Career development workshops
  • Job shadowing
  • Participation to the project Dear World

For the job shadowing activities the GRASP Brussels Local Chapter had the suport of VoteWatch Europe, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Romanian Embassy in Belgium, the Romanian Cultural Institute, Permanent Representation of Romania to the European Union, Maxitours Brussels office, World Vision Brussels office, Open Forum Europe, Agerpress, Ibercor NV, Antwerp Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nokia, Johnson&Johnson, Huawei.

Following the participation in the programme, the students enter an alumni network, providing educational support and coaching to each other.
